I will be studying Plastic Pollution on UWF campus primary the nature trail. Plastic pollutes our land and ocean, these plastics are harmful on the environment and wildlife. Animals can get entangled or consume plastic, often this can be fatal for example sea turtles will eat plastic bags and they will block up their internal organs. Plastics can also leak harmful chemicals that can cause cancer and other side effects in animals or humans.
I will conduct field work on the UWF nature trail and possibly the beach property.
I will collect answers to a small survey about plastic on the nature trail, plastic, plant matter, other materials such as rocks.

My current plan for this project is to create a marine animal out of my collected materials. I will create a website showing the plastic in its "natural habitat" and how it comes together to become an art piece.

When people look at historic photographs they assume that these photos are of the historic moment. The people want to feel apart of history when they look at photos, they don’t want to know the process behind taking these photos. Once you know what's going on behind the photo the magic is ruined, no one wants to know that many photographs are replications of the moment or that the photographer moved something in the picture to make it look better. Even in the times of darkrooms photos may not have been of the moment but people will still believe it is, now with the digital process people believe that digital photos are not as genuine as older photos.
With digital photography the photographer can edit pictures after they take it. This can mean easy color corrections, being able to remove blemishes, and other subtle editing tools, if a photo is edited to heavily then people will notice it. Photo editing software is not a tool to create fake photos. Fake photos might not even exist because everything is edited and changed to create a better photo. The new digital process of taking and editing a photo is easier for the photographer they don’t have to spend hours in the darkroom to develop photos.
Digital photography is just the next evolution of photography. People make assumptions about digital photography being less real than older photos and that's not true it's about the same level of realness. A photographer does not go throwing in a digital alien in his photos when its supposed to be of an event, but the photo might be edited to look better or be a recreation of an event. Older photos are like that too in the essay : Icon a Fact, Fiction and Metaphor by Philip Gefter he states that the famous picture of rosa parks on the bus is taken a year after her historical moment. Older photos are about the same amount as real as newer ones. It's really difficult to capture the original moment because most of the time no one knows what's about to happen and it is difficult to get not only an original picture but a good one as well.
When people think about photography they don’t think of sitting in a dark room for hours and hours or even sitting at a computer trying to create the perfect lighting for your picture, the think of what is going on in the photo and only that. It’s probably best that people don’t know what goes on before and after the photo because it only leads to disappointment. Digital photos are not fake but the evolution of darkrooms making it easier for the photographer and less time consuming as well.

New Media Art is an art movement using new and emerging technologies. Artist use computers to create things like website, video, and game art. New Media involves sharing, borrowing, and free material, with the internet almost anything is available to use for free. Artists are now collaborating on new and different projects creating an artist community online. A collaborative effort online could be open source where other artist and programmers can work together to make a website or other project into what they want, this gets rid of the idea of the traditional solitary artist. With New Media following new technologies traditional media is left out of this broad category.
Photography and video are considered New Media while Painting and Sculpting are left out and considered old or traditional media. Traditional media is ignored by many New Media Artists but it stays equally as important because not only do you learn a lot about art when studying tradition media but traditional media changes because of these new technologies, a different style of painting could pop up around the internet and because of the global connectivity someone in another country can pick up that style and change it as well. Old media also evolves with new technologies but the fundamentals stay the same.
New media is not something that changes by itself but evolves with new technologies and therefore limits itself with only the new. Although New Media is concerned with the new, the old can be borrowed. Classic paintings can be used in photomontages or in other ways with new technology including the old into New Media. Free or cheap is usually a main concern and with countless libraries of classic drawings, paintings, and sculptures older media is included in New Media Art. There are problems with defining New Media Art for example if you did a painting on a new media subject like connectivity and collaboration and you had people email you what they think should go in the painting and you use what they send to make this painting would it be considered New Media or Traditional? I believe the painting would be considered a traditional piece even if you use New Media methods because it is a traditional practice that is not on some sort of technology. But what if its imported to the computer then does it become New Media?
The term New Media limits the art and puts the art into arbitrary categories. New Media should not be as exclusive as it is, because it is all art it is just new mediums of creating art. Art should not be boxed into categories and no category should exclude traditional means of making Art.
